We have our first trade of the Sunny Mehta era.

Yesterday afternoon, the New Jersey Devils announced they had traded Šimon Nemec to the Calgary Flames in exchange for a couple of first-round picks. Here are the full details:

Devils receive:

  • 2027 VGK 1st Round Pick

  • 2028 COL 1st Round Pick

  • 2026 NYR 2nd Round Pick (35OA)

  • LD Etienne Morin

Flames receive:

  • RD Simon Nemec (RFA)

  • RW Maxim Tsyplakov

There’s a lot to unpack here, but this is quite the return for Nemec, who mostly underwhelmed in his time with the Devils. Let’s break it all down and examine how Mehta could use those extra picks in the coming days and weeks.
