The New Jersey Devils have had their fair share of boogeymen over the years.

At one point, it was the Washington Capitals. While still tough, no team has troubled the Devils more than the Carolina Hurricanes.

For one period yesterday, it looked like the Devils could hang with the Hurricanes. They took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, but the Hurricanes quickly did what they usually do to the Devils. The result was a 5-2 loss.

At some point, the Devils will have to exorcise their Hurricanes demons if they want to advance anywhere in the postseason. However, it’s not just the mental aspect that they need to overcome.
