It was a blunder letting his check go on the first goal, but I didn't think Nemec was terrible before that. It feels like he's getting the Holtz treatment - one mistake (albeit a bad one), and he's benched... But Dillon can do something similarly egregious, and it's all good.
I know, I know... rookie vs veteran. I hope they're not going to ruin his confidence the way Ruff and Fitz did with Holtz. We honestly can't afford another Fitz swing and miss with a top ten pick.
Nemec can probably still be pretty good, but some of his play in the defensive zone makes me wonder what his ceiling is. Calling Casey up today makes me think they're going to give him another look.
He'll probably never win a Norris, but I think it's way too early to think he can't do a good job. I think we've already seen some improvement - he's not chasing the puck as badly as he was a few weeks ago, he's played a couple of 2 on 1's very nicely. Now he needs to focus on tying up sticks in front of the net.
His remedial defensive skills make me wonder what's going on down in the minors - he seems to have gotten worse, down there. What are they teaching him?
I do hope Fitz finally learns his lesson, though, and starts drafting the BPA. We'd be a different team if we drafted Cooley and Rossi, instead of Nemec and Holtz. Given that we didn't, and one of them failed for us, it's critical that we either develop Nemec properly, or trade him for a much better player than Cotter.
